Today has been spent doing doggy things at Messukeskus Hesinki Winner show, I am totally beat. But Mogens got his third CAC and thus became Finnish Show Champion! We were also part of Myheels breeder's group, so we got to go the big ring (there were lights, and live band, screens and whatnot) – somehting I never ever in my wildest dreams thought we would ever do! So only one book today:
Category 38: SF book based on a TV-series: Gareth Roberts: Luolamies Lontoossa
There were two Dr. Who novels published in Finland when I was a kid. The TV series was never on, so I totally lacked the context for the books (Doctor Who and the Auton invasion and Doctor Who and the Cavemonsters), but I loved the books, they were exciting and just scary enough. When New Who began, WSOY published few Dr. Who novels, first of which was Luolamies Lontoossa (Only human).
This was nice and very Dr Who -like adventure where Rose and Nine travel to the time of the Neanderthals and meet other time travellers while Captain Jack stays in modern London to help an accidentally time-travelling Neanderthal to familiarize himself with modern world and London. It could have been a nice episode, much better than many a Dr. Who episodes, and I can hear Rose and Nine while reading their dialogue so it felt very familiar and "right". Also, Jukka wrote the introduction.
Snow Chrysanthemum Flower Tea
A gift from a friend from China, this rare snow daisy tea is a quite strange but in the end enticing flower infusion. The flower grows on Kunlun mountains and it is purported to have health benefits from lowering blood pressure to lowering blood sugar. Be that as it may, the drink is nice and red, and when brewed in a glass pot, you can watch the flowers opening up. The taste is flowery, but with a strong after taste of dill. About 2 grams of flowers for cup, add the water at boiling point, and the infusion is ready when it turns red.
