Streaming services have changed the way we consume our media. It certainly has done so with me. The accessibility of it all has been a real gamechanger and the binge-watching made simple and effortless has meant that arious tv-series have had to change the way they are made and edited.
I have subscribed to a couple of different services, BBC iPlayer and Viasat are things of the past, but Netflix and HBO are staples in our current television food groups. I'm afraid my use of HBO has been random, mainly due to being nearly chained to my compyter during the w75-phase. I don't actually know whether I could access my HBO thru the computer, it wasn't an option way back then, but I just haven't had the energy to figure it out. Especially since Netflix has so much to offer. Much more than I can handle, in fact.
There are a fair number of those "must-see"-tv out there. Out of Marvel-series, I enjoyed the first season of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but never got into Luke Cage, Iron Fist or The Defenders. Not to mention The Inhumans. I'm guessing I should give a chance to The Punisher, but we'll see. I'm afraid that I lost interest somewhere in the end of JJ and only managed to take in snippets of the other series while Sari was watching them on telly.
I loved Stranger Things, but haven't managed to bring myself up to seeing the second season. Same with Designated Survivor, which admittedly was a bit of a drudge to finish (1st series). And Expanse, but that one I need to remedy at some point, possibly during Yule holiday. Rectify, Killing, Timeless, Travelers, iZombie, Grimm, Continuum, Lost Girl, the list is long, with many a winding turns. Ah, the entirety of various Star Trek series…
Last one that struck a real chord was Mindhunter, which I inhaled in two days. It's proper binge-a-rama, easy-going serialkiller-stuff with a twist. Ten episodes (about 8+hours in total) goes past very quickly and effortlessly. It's well done candyfloss that leaves a surprisingly satisfied aftertaste. It looks good, it has enough tension and action, while digging deep into the ugly truths of horrible murders so that the viewer will get the cathartic release these things offer. And while the "main" protagonist is the least interesting one, delightful supporting acts are well made and interesting. I could've gone through another season easily. And a third one.
But will I do that, when the actual next season comes out? Or will it be the same thing as with the various Marvel series? "I really like this, but…"
Dunno. We'll see.
The Wrong Stars is very good, but thanks to Mindhunter, has had to wait for its turn. Maybe now, when the binge is over.
