I read some Italo Calvino today. I chose the Italian Folktales, a compendium of 200 aforementioned stories, that Calvino collected through years of research and rewrote. It's quite a feat and full of quirky, wondeful, enchanting and weird tales. It's probably not the best way to get to know Calvino, but a charming way of having a taste of his way of telling stories.

It is such a big book that reading it at one go would be foolish and there is a danger of biting too much at one go, but having a sample, trying a story here, another there, and reading his thorough preface and various footnotes and explanations, it gives a great exposure to not only Calvino, but to the whole field of folktales. It will certainly be an opus to dip into, again and again.

Also, I tried watching some films. Unfortunately, they were all very bad and I couldn't get past 25 minutes with any of them. No need to name then either.

Started reading Tim Pratt's The Wrong Stars. It feels like a very nice space opera. Nothing major to write home yet, but as the reviews/general commentary have been rather positive, I expect to enjoy this one.
