There's a mistake in the world, I said that I have all the books of the List from yesterday, but alas! I am missing one! For reasons utterly incomprehensible, there is no copy of The Tartar Steppe in this household! How can this be? Who's to blame? The 13th Duke of Wybourne? Has no one thought of the consequences?

Quick perusal of the interwebs tells me that there are multiple copies of the novel available thru second hand bookstores. Will order it forthwith.
For a moment I thought there was a collection of his short stories, that had been published in Finnish in 2007, but it turned out that one of his most important stories "Sette piani" (Seventh Floor) was in an anthology of 20th century Italian prosaists. Published by something called The Lauttasaari Press. Never heard. It seems that there is an Italian fellow, by the name of Rolando Pieraccini, who has lived in Helsinki (and Lauttasaari) since the 70's, is a patron of arts, has donated priceless pieces of Finnish history to National Museum and Atheneum, and seems to have a publishing house of his own. Or two, as this seems to involve a fair number of shenanigans and mysteries, and then some. Quite intriguing.
Anyway, the said short story has also been published in Portti (issue 4/92), so now I need to delve into my copies of that publication. Which I somehow have managed to lost from memory, as it actually has an article on Dino Buzzati. And another short story, "L'assalto al Grande Convoglio", which I don't think has been translated into English.
Need some Italian magical realism now.
