Just craptastically awful. And this is from someone who has been entertained enough to get the new book right a way. One and two were nice and jolly kid’s books. Three showed real promise. Four was less well structured but the story moved on. Five was structured even worse than four, but at least Harry was true-to-life incredibly annoying self-centerd moronic teen and Sirius’ character was handled interestingly.
Now this, this was disapointment on so many levels it just is incredible. The narrative was plodding, the infodumping sessions with Dumbledore were painful, Harry is more a cipher than ever and every predictable twist of the plot was used to the power of n. And of course Snape. Now, either JRK has totally ruined the only original character she wrote and undone everything she has built in the five previous books, or she has paved the way for the most annoying double-twist ever (something like Dumbledore was dying anyway and Snape’s cover was cemented by killing him, or surprise! Dumbledore didn’t die and will rise from the ashes like the phoenix he owns…) Either way, the end result is just too fucking lame to be believed.
